Keep Mosquitoes at Bay

Standing water is the single most attractive thing to a mosquito, so start by eliminating as much of it as possible. Water often accumulates in things like buckets, toys, and unused swimming pools – all of which make perfect breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Something else to try is keeping your lawn cut to a healthy length. Letting it grow too long gives mosquitoes a place to hide.

Mosquitoes are able to inflict more injury than just a painfully swollen bite. Some common mosquito-borne diseases include:

• West Nile virus
• Eastern Equine Encephalitis
• Saint Louis Encephalitis
• Zika virus

The Zika virus has received a large amount of media coverage recently, and Florida has been the home of some of those infected. Even though the cases are isolated, you should take all available precautions against infection.
